The hard drive is an essential part of your PC. As reliable it has become through the years, hard disks still have a finite lifespan. While current technology allows data recovery to be done easily, it is still best to be prepared before it fails out of your convenience. |

1) Listening to sounds
A weird rattling/cracking sort of sound can be heard from your hard disk. This is easily heard when you switch on your PC.
2) Drive LEDs that keeps blinking
If the LED keeps blinking out of the norm even when your computer is idle, something is wrong and it might just get worse.
3) Long loading time
A hard disk may take awhile to load when its working hard. It may have to initialize data to be read and etc but it can also be trying to replace read/write errors or reading hard into bad sectors.
4) Chkdsk or scandisk shows bad sectors
Whenever you see more and more bad sectors coming up via scanning them, be prepared as the lifespan of your hard disk is ending.
5) Hot hot hot!
It is natural for all your drives to be warm but it is a warning sign to you if your hard disk is running exceptionally hot compared to the other drives.
